Too bad his clutch fielding was not so hot.

you know, for some of us that still hurts just a little bit.

It's just part of the story. The 2004 World Series win wouldn't have been so sweet without all the tragedies that came before it.

Yeah, if the Red Sox didn't win last year, I'd say that'd be legitimate. But they did, and they came back from a 3-0 series deficit against the Yankees, if that doesn't satisfy you, what will?

Yes... at the bottom of Andy's article:

"Another recent study on the topic, by Tangotiger using 1999-2003 data, claimed a similar result as mine. However, his uncertainties were underestimated, thus creating a false positive. After fixing the error, his finding was not statistically significant, something verified by both Alan Jordan and me. "

Yeah, I'd heard there were problem with the study. I never fully read the Dolphin article, just the meat of it which confirmed my suspicions of a few years (singles hitters to better with RISP, power hitters do worse).

At any rate, fretting over these sort of ideas which are nearly trivial seem to be of no use to anyone except people who blindly follow either numbers or blindly reject them.

Most people I know who have advanced stats training thought little of the Dolphin study.
