[ QUOTE ]

To me, it is like some baseball players using wood bats while a few are able to use metal bats. Sure, they all still have to hit the same ball - but they have an unfair advantage.

[/ QUOTE ]
bad analogy. the technology is available to all but the stubborn and the oblivious. if you want to use a wooden bat then that is your perogative. you are perfectly able to get off your obstinate ass and buy a metal bat. if you prefer to use a wooden bat for tradition's sake, too bad. don't fault others for not giving a damn about tradition.

Ok I admit it's not the best analogy. But nonetheless, if you want a fair playing field it makes a lot more sense to just have everyone use a wooden bat. Especially if metal bats were something most players didn't even know existed. If you think the casual player outside of 2+2 is even aware these programs exist, you're wrong IMO. Since poker is supposed to be a game of skill, not a game of searching the internet for datamining software, I'd say all players should use wooden bats, and just play the game of poker.

Information is just that,. Information. If you can't interpet it to make a good decision, which most people can't. it's worthless. I'll bet my flush draew and my set the same way. Do any of these programs tell you that?

The only problem is perception. You don't want the fish to "feel" their at a disadvantage. Ignorance is bliss.

I'm still not done reading all of these but man did this promote some discussion Anyway I'll throw in my 2 cents here.

Is shared data mining collusion or cheating? Not in any sensible definition of it. Is it an "unfair advantage"? Well that depends on how we understand "unfair." Sure it's an advantage. There's lots of ways to get an advantage at poker. In order for it to be deemed "unfair" it would either have to be dishonest or involve information not readily available.

As a comparison, let's look at financial trading, something I used to do for a living. Now there's all kinds of cool software you can use of course to maximize your advantage at this, at varying prices, but they are available to everyone. If I trade with this software, does it give me an advantage over the everyday Joe who trades with less information? Of course, provided I use it properly. Is it unfair? No. The same analogy can be applied to poker software.

I don't think Party and Empire realize what sort of impact banning software users would have on their bottom line. I think many here would agree it is a big mistake on their part. Software users will simply go elsewhere to play, and this consititutes a significant part of their rake.

I don't play on Party skins myself, so I don't really care, although I expect that the other skins will have to toe the line soon on this. This leaves the Party skin software junkie having to find a new home.

The stuff I use is pretty similar to Poker Edge although Poker Edge only works with Party skins of course and this puppy works with all the biggies and a lot of small sites too. If you want to say to hell with Party and let them suffer the consequences of this and still want a data miner program like PE then check out Poker Sherlock. Hopefully there will be more of this stuff but for now it's nice to have a choice, and this thing gives you all sorts of stats right on your computer screen like the latest version of PE does, and at the site you want it at too.

I'm actually hoping that most of us who appreciate the benefits of a good software program can show Party Poker that they can stick it where the sun don't shine and thus show them the error of their ways.

If you're against this sort of thing then you're entitled to your opinion but many of us love the stuff and as long as there's a market for that I don't think we have much to worry about at all really.
