WSOP Day 1A: \"Official\" Results, News & Discussion
Yikes! The board is a mess today with well over a dozen new posts for the main event. I thought somebody would have already started one of these when the main event started.
So, please post news, results, and commentary in one thread. When Day 1B starts tomorrow, I hope somebody will start a thread for that and I'll sticky that one after I wake up (please start it when WSOP play begins). New threads which are nothing more than "Player X has been eliminated or has doubled-up" will get deleted in order to keep the board manageable. |

The Card Player Live Updates Log is a good source for updates.
Gutshot.com has regular updates For you three Scott Fischman fans Scott Fischman is still standing with $6,600 in chips. He just told Card Player he bets he is "the only guy to double up to $2,400 in the first level." Scott says he has "been on the felt a few times today and has doubled up about four times." He says he is happy to be alive. |

From pokertrails.com:
[ QUOTE ] Johnny Grooms informed me that about 1,800+ started today. The unnofficial number of entries is 5,661, but he says a few of those will be duplicate entries (will call then paying in on their own, etc.). He says the number should be closer to 5,640. We will actually play down to around 66 tables today, not the previously mentioned 7 levels. Grooms wants to be able to have a room that isn't overfilled on Sunday, hence the table # requirement to be left today. [/ QUOTE ] Kevin... |

Re: WSOP Day 1A: \"Official\" Results, News & Discussion
I can't believe some of the play. k9!!!!! From Cardplayer
"Jesus" Works a Miracle Log: The following hand caused a stir on the tournament floor: The button raised to $275, the small blind called, and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson reraised $1,000 more to go. The button came over the top for $3,500 more, forcing the small blind to fold, but when the action got back to Ferguson, he pushed all in for his last $4475. The button called. Ferguson showed A-A, and the button flipped up K-9. That's right, K-9. The flop was devastating for Ferguson when it came K-9-4 making the button two pair. There were two diamonds on board giving Ferguson, who held the ace of diamonds, a backdoor flush draw to go with two remaining aces, and 3 remaining fours that would give him the lead in the hand. The turn brought a non-diamond queen. Ferguson needed a 4, a Queen, or an ace on the river for the win. The river brought a 4. Ferguson hit his bigger two pair, and left his opponent on the short stack. The crowd "oohd and ahhhd" reveling in all the action. |
