running bad streaks (theory, not a whine)
so its obvious that even great players can go through ~20k+ break even streaks. online, yeah its a grind, but its "only" a few weeks or so, depending on how many tables you play.
what bothers me is, live, 20k+ hands can be months or years, depending on how often one plays. you may never see the light at the end of the tunnel, like you can in online poker. it just seems like live poker isn't worth it, cuz it'll take years and years to get into the long run. maybe what separates the good players from the great ones is just a 10k tear vs a 10k downswing... |

Re: running bad streaks (theory, not a whine)
So what you're saying is, you can get more hands in online than you can in b&m? And that, when you're starting out or have a small roll, it's better to go on a heater than a downswing?
Well this is ground-breaking stuff. |

Re: running bad streaks (theory, not a whine)
I think its hard to determine if Im on a bad beat streak or if Im playing bad.
Im pretty sure I've made my big losses over my last 25k hands against miracle sr8 and flushes (or better) having two pair or trips. But at this forum people say -Week tight go down and practice. It may be the correct advice but if that was the case I figure my swings would be less swings and mor like consistent looses. A theory to mesure against would be great. |

Re: running bad streaks (theory, not a whine)
Or, is it that, contrary to some people's opinions, the variance is significantly less in live play because of the ability to read people. If the variance is less, the downswings are likely to be less commmon.
Has anyone ever compared on-line winner stats with live table winner stats to determine if there is a real difference? Clearly you are right that a 20k hand downswing would be a serious issue to someone who was making a living playing live poker. But then I guess it was reported that Doyle B was going to have his first losing year before he won that WPT event. But I have no idea what that really meant or how true it was. |
