Question from \"Hold-em Poker\"
From page 44 of "Hold-em Poker":
If you are dead last, at least call with almost anything, certainly Groups 1-6. You should call with Group 8 hands and even worse if there are many other players in.[1] Then he goes on to say in the footnote: This is not true for the double blind structure since a call costs too much. Stick to Groups 1-6 plus all pairs. My question is why does it cost too much? Is it because now there are two people behind you who might raise you instead of one? |

Re: Question from \"Hold-em Poker\"
When the book was first written, Limit HoldEm was played with only a single blind, and it was only half a small bet. So in a 10-20 game, the blind was only $5. Since this amount is so small compared to the future bets, it is correct to play many hands if you can see the flop for only $5.
In most current games, you need to put in a full small bet ($10 in a 10-20 game) to see the flop. Your implied odds are now cut in half, so you need to throw away more hands. |
