Default Go all-in preflop?

I just starting playing for real money and am starting out learning with Ed Miller's short stack strategy. According to GSIH, I should have gone all-in preflop in this hand. At the time, it seemed like too big a bet. Should I go all-in? If not all-in, how much?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.10 BB (9 handed) converter

MP3 ($17.25)
Hero ($1.85)
Button ($6.60)
SB ($2.40)
BB ($4.55)
UTG ($11.55)
UTG+1 ($9.90)
MP1 ($7.65)
MP2 ($9.80)

Preflop: Hero is CO with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $0.5, 3 folds, Hero raises to $1.4, 3 folds, UTG+1 calls $0.90.

Flop: ($2.95) 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG+1 bets $0.45, Hero calls $0.45 (All-In).

Turn: ($3.85) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: ($3.85) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players, 1 all-in)

Final Pot: $3.85

There is no need ever to leave yourself with 45 cent.

it doesn't matter really much since both you and your opponent know that the $0.45 is going in after the flop anyway. just don't fold after the flop if you do this.

i would have put it in preflop

Without question, you go all-in here. You have AKs in LP. You are favored against most hands and are a coin flip against any PP except AA,KK, even then you might draw a flush to beat a set.

One of the other reasons to go all-in here is to isolate. The last thing you want is someone with A6 hanging around. The extra $0.45 isn't much, but it might be enough to push someone out.

It doesn't matter that much. A reason to raise more would be if you thought the initial raiser might be inclined to fold to a larger raise if he held a pocket pair. But that's a very remote possibility... the he has a pocket pair, that he'd call your smaller raise, and that he'd fold to your slightly larger all-in raise.

Another difference is that occasionally he'll fold on the flop to your mini-bet. That's generally good for you when you hold AK, but not so much when you hold AA.

Ultimately, don't worry about it. For now just concentrate on trying to get all your money in. If that happens, you played fine.

I was concerned about an all-in not getting called. The lessons I take from the responses are:
a) This is not a valid concern. With only .45 left the caller knows I'll be all-in by the end of the hand.
b) In this hand with AKs, there is a little value in having .45 left if I can take the pot with a small bet on the flop.
c) On balance, it doesn't really matter.

The result:
AKs held up against pocket queens.

Thank you for the responses.

For those that don't undertand what Ed is saying. A6 is exactly what you want someone else in the pot to be holding.

AKs is a about 70% to win against A6s so you want that dog in the pot. The fact that A6s is drawing to so few outs helps your hand as it creates a nice overlay a against the QQ (a hand you are actually not a favorite to beat).
