As an aside, I have a friend who I am trying (poor guy) to teach/mentor at 0.5/1. He regularly falls into the "they could never have this here cuz......" and I constantly have to remind him that THEY ARE RETARDED and don't necessarily do what is correct or even sane.

I do exactly what you did, except I probably call the river 3-bet and then pound my right fish on my table and yell "[censored]", as I am wont to do.

Call the 3bet, if this guy can check AT/AA/TT, then he can probably check QT/JT too on the flop and wont really have any reason to think it isnīt good after all the weakness he sees. There is probably a slight chance of AK or some idiot move aswell.
If you really think you are that far behind, why even raise the river ?
