Re: Newbie Limit O8b Questions
Rosie,
dont worry about it. we were all unfamiliar with this game at some point. although with regards to holding the nuts on the flop, i think i need to clarify. not that we're saying the nuts on the flop is worthless, just that the nuts on the flop isnt worth very much UNLESS it is a hand you can see holding up a good majority of the time with a decent scoop possibility. omaha and 0/8 is a game of draws and redraws. unlike HE (sorry for the assumption of your previous poker background), multiple draws are often out as getting 2x the number of cards means 6x as many hands. it's just a matter of adapting to a different game. i do remember your frustration post awhile back. i do hope you not give up on this game, as i personally find it much more profitable than anything else. more importantly, it's so much more fun! as long as you learn to deal with the bad players that is... respectfully, temp |

Re: Newbie Limit O8b Questions
[ QUOTE ]
A simple rule of thumb is only play if a) all 4 cards are T or higher, AND either a1) they are double suited, OR a2) you have a pair and single suited. [/ QUOTE ] I would tighten this up a bit more, especially for loose games. a2) you have a pair of Queens or higher and single suited. Pairs of Jacks or Tens are not nearly as strong as Aces, Kings or Queens. With Jacks or Tens you may flop top set, but they will not be the nuts at the river without improvement. Either a straight or a higher set will be possible. |

Re: Newbie Limit O8b Questions
Rosie - When you flop the nut straight, especially if the flop has two cards of the same suit, and especially it is not an ace high straight, your straight will often not stand up. Flopped nine-high straights, for example, are notorious for not standing up.
However, when you flop quads, or the nut full house when you have quads blocked (eg. you hold AKQJs and the flop is AAK), that will almost surely be good. And even when you flop the nut full house but quads are possible (eg. you hold AAQJs and the flop is A99), even in a loose game that will be good nineteen or more times out of twenty. And in terms of flushes, when you flop the nut flush with no other cards the same rank as any on the flop (eg. you hold A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and the flop is 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]), that will usually hold up. {For the example given, the board doesn't pair about three times out of five, 582/990, and no straight flush is possible for an opponent). Finally in terms of low, when you flop the nut low, your low will usually stand up, especially if you have counterfeit protection. So the are peanuts and then again there are almonds, cashews, macadamas, and pecans - and they're not all the same. Buzz |

why are you playing KQ76 if you aren't going to play after flopping the nut straight with it? [/ QUOTE ] Because in my post I said if you got something like that in the "BB." |
