Default 88 in early position?

What is the usual move for 88 in early position in a low limit holdem game? I would think call, maybe raise on occasions - but then also maybe fold as well - it's probably no good if you don't hit an 8?

In a typical low limit game (loose and passive) folding 88 UTG would be a mistake. Calling is the best play the majority of the time.

JTG51 is right, usually it is a mistake to fold this hand. Very often you will see the flop for one SB, and your implied odds are good since players typically go too far with their hands.

However, if you are against one or two very aggressive players, it might be best to fold UTG. Raising would be a mistake, since you want as many callers as possible as cheaply as possible (unless you are trying to go heads-up which is virtually impossible from EP in a low-limit game).
