When you move up a little, you'll find that suited connectors can add quite a bit to your game, same goes for small pairs (which you should play for implied odds anyway).

So basically you're a new player who decided to eliminate all the hard to play hands from your game, and focus on the big hands.

Smart, but not exactly revolutionary.

In order to become a good player you must learn to play small pairs, suited connectors, and hands like AQ.

I think it would be better for him to tighten up now, and then slowly loosen up as he gets better and more comfortable.

This isn't good. Play small pairs for set value. And usually races are when you're all in preflop.

I agree. As I said in my reply, it's not a bad idea. In fact it's a good idea. But it's basically the exact same tight, ABC method that is often prescribed on this forum for newbies.
