Confused by donkbet on river.
Villain is loose-passive. I'd not seen him raise until this hand. I assumed on the turn that he had a Q, but the river bet really confused me as to whether to raise or not. I'm almost sure I should've raised and called a 3-bet but not entirely.

Re: Confused by donkbet on river.
Beats me, maybe he caught queens over kings? I'd still raise and call a 3 bet.

Re: Confused by donkbet on river.
For some reason I can hear Vince Van Patten saying
"The only way he can win with his four-five now is by firing at the pot." Or maybe it's Mike Sexton saying it. |

Re: Confused by donkbet on river.
To quote Ed Miller, kinda
"Big pots are not the time to save bets, folding is saving bets. When the pot is big and you have a decent hand (the nut flush is better than decent...) fire in that extra bet and raise. If you crash and burn on occasion that's fine, but that's how winning poker is played." Raise the river, if you get reraised then CAP it I say. He could very well have a single Q or a worse flush. If you lose to a full house so be it, it was just meant to be. |

Re: Confused by donkbet on river.
I think capping the river would be just burning money. But I would raise. Though it sorta looks like KQ. Dude you have 5 hearts you know?

Re: Confused by donkbet on river.
I'm raising and calling a 3bet. A donkbet usually means one of two extremes: extremely strong or extremely weak.
Luckily for you, his QQQ is extremely strong, but you still beat it. The only hand that got there is KQ, so it's a clear raise to me. Now, I think capping vs calling the 3bet might be an interesting discussion if you had some more reads on villian. |
