I raise with one maybe two limpers depending on what they limp with position. First in I'm usually raising unless raises have been getting no respect and players have been bluffing. "typical" table doesn't mean a lot.

If you raise UTG in a ten-handed game and get one caller, then I'm pretty sure that your one caller does not have a random hand. And I'm pretty sure that if you end up going to showdown, your opponent will have something that can beat a pair of nines.

99 is a premium hand in NL because it can flop the nuts. But that's not a reason to raise it UTG.
