Limit books - Assist in a NL game?
Are there specific ideas/concepts from Limit that will improve one's NL game?
SSH and HPFAP great and all, but there are no limit games for me to play around here. Just NL. I've read Harrington and Ciaffone's stuff, but always looking for new perspectives and pointers. Obviously, I don't want to incorporate limit information if it's going to be counter-productive to my game. |

Re: Limit books - Assist in a NL game?
I've heard people say SSHE by Miller and MLHE by Ciaffone have helped their bigbet game.
By saying you have read the Ciaffone stuff, I assume you have read Improve your poker in addition to pot and no limit poker. I think one of the best uses of your time would be to search the 5 or 6 years of 2+2 archives for bigbet cash and tourney posts by fossilman, Limon, Tommy Angelo, and Ray Zee. The relevant archives will be spread over various categories, as the forums where the bigbet posts were made have changed over the years. |

Re: Limit books - Assist in a NL game?
What you are asking is equivalent to: Are there any softball books that will help my baseball game?
If you don't understand base running, then the answer is yes. If you are fairly familiar with baseball, then no. |

I understand the metaphor, but what specifically can help me? I just want to know which strategies and tactics from those texts can help out with my game.

Re: Limit books - Assist in a NL game?
I don't think you understand the metaphor.
Limit books will teach you about pot odds, outs, basic poker math, and whether a flush beats a straight. If you are familiar with these subjects (you should be if you read HOH), you can probably skip the limit books. If you have not read the Theory of Poker by Sklansky, you should shut off your computer, head down to your friendly Barnes and Nobles and buy it now. |
