The only way to get more people to play--and more people means more money--is to multiply the number of Day 1s and have them at different times. Day 1 at Harrah's in AC in May, Day 1 at Harrah's in Reno a week later, et cetera.

Thats just plain dumb

[ QUOTE ]
Why do people always assume that the tournament operators should cater to the pros?

e.g...the pros want this, are complaining about this, would like to see this

Harrahs is in business to make money, not to kiss pros asses. They will do what is best to get the most possible entries, not to cater to the pros.

[/ QUOTE ]

why do people wanna a pro win the ME so bad. it's not like we need another negreanu open challenge. if i don't win it, i'm hoping a homeless, gay, monkey, or transvestite wins the next one. that would be one hella a show. can you imagine a transvestite playing phil hellmuth HU at the final table. The next big thing will be live final tables on TV.

I think you're underestimating the effect TV is going to have on the game. We havn't seen the tip of iceberg in terms of TV coverage. The 60Mil$ is a tiny drop to what the TV industry can bring to the game.

TV coverage and marketing will demant stars. You can market surprise success stories, like Moneymaker, but only to a point. I'm certain that ESPN producers are dying for a Negreanu-type player to win it. The basis for Poker is already there, now they need to create a marketing system that will thrive constantly, not only during the WSOP itself.

I'm guessing we'll see some more inventational events (maybe to the likes of a final tournament between all the braclet winners that year). The Stud Hi/Lo will probably be the first event to vanish. 7 card Stud will follow in a few years. Those make bad TV and thus have very little chance to survive.

Given the number of "names" making final tables to date, I think the complaining will settle down. They just needed to adjust their game to the dead money and they should now be welcoming the lines of suckers w/ cash in their hands waiting to play.

I never said the Main Event buy-in should be increased, but that there should be a higher buy-in event.

About making money - You have any idea how much money Harrah's money would make on that kind of event?

Think about it - $50K, and you may even get enough players to possibly bring the total prize pool to 8 digits. There's an infinite number of higher buy-in events the other 11 months of the year at other casinos, so why not in the WSOP?

this won't happen. unless they find a way to completely isolate the pros for the duration of the final table from any outside contact.

There have been numerous tables shown live on UK tv, yes they have to be kept in a studio away from the audience but it is easily doable, the players were scanned for devices on entry to the studio, with the audience in a holding area where the players were interviewed on busing out. I assume there is some sort of toilet access in the studio.

The thing that might stop it happening is the previous days will not have been shown in any great detail as they will have too much footage and to little time to edit it.

i guess im just thinking it would kind of a big break from tradition to not have all the audience in there with the final table. it would be crazy quiet at that final table.
