Is there a rake in the higher games?
I know when you play the low limit games in casinos that the rake is usually 10% up to $4. But when you start playing higher limits and pay by the half hour or hour, is there still a rake or is what you pay to sit down considered the rake?

Re: Is there a rake in the higher games?
From what I understand it's either one or the other. I've never played in a casino, but I've done alot of reading about it.

Re: Is there a rake in the higher games?
The rake, on raked gams, is usually around 10% with maxes of $4 to $6 or so. There may also be additionally money taken from the pot for jackpots.
In a time game, payments are usually taken on the half-hour which correspond to dealer downs (shifts in the box). This is a handy way to let players know it's time to pay up; the first thing the new dealer does is take time. The price varies, but $6-7/player for a moderate NL game is pretty common, I think. A variation on paying time is the "time pot". Some places have stopped doing this for various reasons. The idea is that time is taken from the first pot of at least a particular size after the new dealer comes in. The dealer collects the time from the pot before pushing it to the player. Oh, and it's either rake OR time, not both. Regards, T |

The highest I have played is $6-$12 Limit, and I was worried about having both a rake and time charge cut into any profit you may make. I am assuming time charges can begin at the $10-$20 level. Am I correct? |

Where I play, Indiana and Las Vegas, the mid-limit(10/20, 15/30, 20/40) games are raked. They tend to have time charge for the even the small NL games in Indiana. So, obviously, it varies by room. You can check the plaque on the tables to be certain. Or ask the floor. Regards, T |
