An Asian girl raises UTG with AA, she's trying to play good but may need a little more experience, loose playing gambler who is enjoying himself calls UTG+1 with Q 5 off, I believe there was one more caller. Long story short gambler ends up flopping a 5, calls Asian girl down and rivers a Q. Gambler takes the pot and as he is stacking his chips Asian girl says "I can't believe you called my raise with Q 5!". Gambler replies "You should be glad I did!"

Why should she be glad about losing to a total suckout? Is his point that in the long-run AA should hold up against a single caller with a crummy hand? If this isn't it, then I really don't get the story....

Any player who wants to win, as I assume Asian girl did, should be glad when opponents play poorly...regardless of outcome.

He didn't say "you should be glad I sucked out", just "you should be glad I called with a 5"

Another way of putting it is that if you are playing in a game and you aren't seeing lots of bad beats you should look for a better game. My definition of a bad beat is somewhat strict - whan someone plays a hand or goes to far with a hand that he clearly shouldn't have (and beats a better player/hand).

Seeing lots of bad beats in your game should make you happy, although it's only human to wish them on others (and don't be the one giving them - a top player never gives anyone bad beats [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]).

Hello Rick,

My idea of a bad beat is a little different, it occures when the hand is over and all the players at the table are on their feet yelling 'Jackpot' and congratulating each other. The player who just lost the hand is mentally dividing the Jackpot amount by 2, the winner of the hand is mentally dividing the Jackpot amount by 4, the rest of the players are mentally dividing the jackpot amount by 4 and then dividing that amount by the number of players not involved in the hand.
