i may be wrong and he may have won some big stud event or something w/ several hundred entrants, but id guess most of his bracelets are things like 50 entrant $2k buy in razz events or some such nonsense.

Default you are making a fool of yourself

I don't know PH and I've never played with him but it's not hard to look up results.
Won the $2500 buy-in Limit HE 4/26 for $171,400.
3rd in the $1500 Limit Omaha for $15,800.
6th in $3000 Limit HE for $15,040.
Won $3000 No Limit HE for $410,860.
and of course in the money in the big one and one brutal beat away from being a final table lock.

It's pretty damn obvious the guy is a great tournament player.

Mike,
You're dead wrong here:
1989
Phil Hellmuth Championship Event $755,000
1992
Phil Hellmuth Limit Hold'em $188,000
1993
Phil Hellmuth Limit Hold'em $138,000
Phil Hellmuth No Limit Hold'em $161,400
Phil Hellmuth No Limit Hold'em $173,000
1997
Phil Hellmuth Hold'em Pot Limit $204,000
2001
Phil Hellmuth JR. No Limit Hold'em $316,550
2003
Phil Hellmuth Jr. Limit Texas Hold'em $171,400

Plus one more somewhere in there this year. The guy may be a prick, he may be this, that, or the other...but it's not like he's winning the 5 entrant razz event and ladies' 1/2 hold 'em 1/2 stud every year, the guy's a LHE and NLHE *tournament* madman.

Dan

P.S. This isn't supposed to be vindication for Phil or anything, but dude's a tournament genius.

I think Phil is great for Poker. His persona gets people interested, if for no other reason than they want to see him lose. For a sport or a game to gain popularity, you don't just need solid role models, you also need controversial talented bad guys. It's all about theater.

Not 100% positive...but I beleive all 9 of his bracelets have come from Holdem events.

CLEARLY he has some anger issues...but hey, he's been good for poker; he's been on CNBC talking about the WSOP recently and surprisingly didn't sound like a complete lout...his book isn't GREAT but it's a good colorful layman's/amateur's alternative to the somewhat aging books by some others. and i've played him on UB and at least on the internet, he's a pretty gracious guy and doesn't sneer at starchasers, etc.

he's a good player...chill on the trash!
