Default How scary is this flop with QQ?

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (8 handed) converter

saw flop|saw showdown

Hero (t4785)
BB (t4460)
UTG (t7535)
UTG+1 (t12200)
MP1 (t22929)
MP2 (t5290)
CO (t17062)
Button (t14400)

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
2 folds, MP1 calls t400, 3 folds, Hero raises to t1600, 1 fold, MP1 calls t1200.

Flop: (t3375) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP1 checks.

Turn: (t3375) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP1 checks.

River: (t3375) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets t1200, MP1 folds.

Final Pot: t4575

I was reluctant to bet at all, but thought I had to make it look like I was dangling something so he would bite on it. I thought if I went all in on the river it would look desparate.

A case can be made for pushing preflop. You're out of position the entire hand. That being said, I would push this flop.

A difficult hand to play with 12BBs. I am betting less PF. The reason for this is that it both encourages a call, and becomes easier to play AF. How so? A continuation bet into this pot is more than 1/2 your remaining chips - very awkward. Say you make it 1200 to go. You then have 3500 left, and can comfortably and reasonably bet 1500 on this flop.

As it is, finding out where you are in the hand will cost all of your chips. As it is, I am happy with your play up until the river. Why such a big bet? Do you imagine that he's folding an ace or a king here? either bet a small amount to get a value call, or check, and call a bet. Your bet encourages an AI if he has been waiting for you to bet, and encourages a fold if he has a mid-PP.

i like a push pre-flop. your hand's going to be very difficult to play out of position if an A/K flops. the antes sweeten the pot, too. villain is deep enough that he might he might make a "great" call with something like 66/KJs.

i really don't like the bet on the end. no worse hand will call, and it's very unlikely a better hand folds (maybe Kx on missed flop c/r). i would check and call a tiny bet or fold to a bigger one.

And you can take that to the bank.

Push pf...only reason not to is bc you want the action?

anyway, he probably limped a small/med pp and im sure the flop looked worse to him than to you.

With your stack size and QQ, Im getting all my chips in, whether Pf or post is a matter of preference.

If the villain had a smaller stack, I'd like it. But with his stack raising to 1200 is like trying to stop a truck with a flyswatter.

?? i don't get it...you were looking for a call on the river? I like your bet as a blocking bet, though.

Given my stack size relative to the amount of money already in the pot I push PF.

I bet that amount which was about a third of the pot to hoping that he will call it (best case) or just fold thinking that I am luring him in. I think if I bet less he could just come over the top thinking that I don't really have anything. It was a tough decision but I had to bet or he could have bet big and I would have had to fold.

I needed to move up on chips for sure, top 9 move one and I was about 18 out of 20 at this point. I didn't want to just win the blinds, although, I can see the rationale for just pushing preflop.

I needed to win this hand at this stage and I know that I lose if I don't bet, more than likely as he would bet big and I fold. That is why I made the third pot bet here, although I can see pushing on the river. I really didn't think he had me beat on the river.
