Someday you'll figure out that what people say and what people do are not always identical.

last time I checked, there were mad porno companies based here in the U.S., and thousands of American porn stars. Also, its legal here for adults over 18 to posses and view porn. So basically my point is you have no point.

Yes we watch and produce more porn than just about anyone in the world but we are also very hippocritical about it. I am too lazy to do the actual research on this but compared with the percentage of people who actually buy porn I would guess that less than half of them would admit to doing so.

America was founded by 2 groups of people. A bunch of religious zealots seeking religious freedom, and people seeking to escape political persecution. These two groups are still very influential in American society today. So while our culture is one based on the freedom of the individual, it is also one based on a religious background that shuns all things sexual.

The compromise these groups have somehow reached is that while we have the freedom to do things that are frowned apon by the religious people, we will publicly denounce them as "sinful".

It must be our Puritan roots. In general, I think we take a forbidden fruit type attitude towards too many things in this country often while vigorously marketing these things at the same time (alcohol), and a result we see a lot more excessive and abusive behavior than in other parts of the world.

Why is the US as a whole far more against porn than other industrialized countries like Europe and Japan? Discuss

[/ QUOTE ]

We're not. We just pretend to be. Sex is still a "taboo" subject in American culture. So, many people try to hide porn underground so as not to be looked down on by peers and such. Just another reason why the word "porn" doesn't exist anymore. It's been replaced "adult entertainment" and others like it. Why? Because it doesn't sound as dirty or taboo that way. America loves porn. We're just shy about it yet.
