Default Go for the free card?

Hero is CO, SB is SLAP and PFR of 14%, BB is SLPP

Pre-Flop: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
2 folds, MP calls, 2 folds, Hero calls, 1 fold, SB raises, BB calls, limpers call

Flop: (8 SB) 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
SB bets, BB calls, MP calls, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls, MP folds.

I raised to try for the free card play. Would you do this also?

Turn: (7.5 BB) 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
SB checks, BB bets, Hero calls, SB calls.

I can't let this go here, right?

River: (10.5 BB) T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks.

Are you sure you didn't raise the flop for the raise the best hand play? I don't know why you'd want to take a free card. You aren't drawing, it's much more likely your opponents are.

Bet the river for value.

Edit: no, you should not fold the turn. You have 6 outs to a straight or better and it's still pretty likely that you have the best hand. SB may be betting to stop you from getting a free card.

no, but i woudl raise to protect my hand. why would you want a free card in this spot?

bet the river, worse hands will call and better ones usually aint checking.

You're betting and raising for value, and you want to prevent a free card, not give one!

OK, so since a raise wouldn't protect my hand here, would you just call?

Also, on the turn, the BB who is a passive player bet. Does this slow you down, or would you raise here to try and protect the hand?

I like the way you played this, but I don't think that the raise was for a free card. I think that there's an excellent chance that you had the best hand right there.

Had one of the players before me reraised the flop and bet out the turn I'd have considered folding. But as it played out I'd say nh.

I'd consider a pfr.

I'd bet the river. I think that you would have most likely heard from a 5 on the turn.

I'd raise PF, 88 is strong, try'n get it HU with MP.

Good flop raise. I wouldn't take a free card since you probably have the best hand.

No folding the turn now.

Value bet the river.

Buy Theory of Poker. Read the chapter on free cards.

Lumberg f*cked her. But in all seriousness raise the flop to protect your hand and then follow through on the turn.
