Clearly I'm missing something here, but I don't see a semi-bluff working. A diamond draw is going to take a card, overcards might take a card. Hero only has a GSSD. Could you please elaborate?

This is a great pot to steal. The only players in are a poster (who could have any two cards), the button (who didn't like his hand enough to raise despite having position and being up against three blinds), and the small blind.

And you think that at 2/4 this is going to happen > 25% of the time?

Doesn't have to for it to be profitable.

a lot of times you'll fold out A9 or K8 and go on to win the pot.

not +Ev by itself, but when you consider a 9 or 8 will often be good otherwise, you might fold out better hands, and you have outs to the nizzuts, then it doesn't become a terrible bet.

this does seem like one of those boards that's conducive to getting calls though, which we aren't pissed about, but it certainly blunts one of the reasons to bet.

CDC, comments? the other benefits of the bet outweigh your increased likelihood to get called (when compared to a board like a Q73 rainbow)

And sometimes you might get raised...

Your argument seems to suggest that there will always be someone of those 3 opponents holding a better 8 or 9 that will always fold?

Ok... but certainly it must happen some certain percentage of the time for it to be profitable - what's the estimate here?

I understand that there are various reasons for betting out. But c'mon..
<ul type="square">[*]The pot is tiny[*]You have no reads other than these guys are obvoius donks posting UTG and open-limping on the button[*]The donk-like read makes it more likely (IMO) that you're going to either get played with or just called down by A-high[*]A bet that doesn't pick up the pot on the flop put's you in a pickle on the turn OOP[/list]
These guys are obviously idiots - if they can play this passively PF - then why not try to take one off for free on the flop?
