Default An interesting hand during some hand history evaluations

I'm evaluating my partner's hands and I come across this one. Villain is very aggressive, a little over aggro if you ask me from the few hands I've looked at. Not as tight as typical 2+2, but it works with his bruiser style.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 4 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

Flop: (4.40 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets, Hero raises...

I thought in a four handed match vs. a thinking LAG that this should be a preflop 3-bet. Given the PF call though, I suggested he just call this flop and turn due to the number of outs we have and being OOP, then decide about a call on the river as well. The PF 3-bet I'm confident about, the flop decision I'm not so sure. Any help?

I like a preflop 3 bet and lead, but your C/R doesn't suck given that you called, that's probably how I'd play it if I misclicked preflop.

I like this play. Preflop is arguable, but this is a great board for this situation considering hero's call preflop. Button could be raising a number of hands, but this board probably missed most of them. There's a good chance you're ahead right now, and you can probably get the button to fold a live draw on the turn (pair draw, obviously not a flush draw or open ender). If button is thinking, your check-raise should look scary because this is a flop that probably hit a BB caller, since you'd have reraised your high card hands preflop, but most likely called with middle connectors. Also, you may get him to fold a better ace if you keep pushing.

Even if you get 3-bet, you have decent equity in this pot so it won't hurt too much.
