He called the turn raise, we both checked a river blank and his ATs was good.


In a lot of situations, if I'm going to just call the turn and river, I think a turn raise is better. But (given my decision to just call preflop, otherwise this hand is very different obviously) I think calling every street would have been better in this hand.

Reasons:
-he might lead the river again with a lower pocket pair but fold those to a turn raise so i'd win an extra BB when ahead
-even though i wont lose any more when i'm behind, he's a longshot to improve when he's behind, so there is no protection value
