A Followup to \"Two Overpair Hands\"
As discussed in one of the more interesting threads recently.
How did I play this hand on all streets? SB had only a few BB left and I could see him calling it down. All I had on CO was 22% VPIP and 4% PFR after 54 hands, so nothing much. On the flop, I'm calling because I'm not looking to push my edges or scaring any bettors/raisers into not betting/raising on the turn when my safe card comes. When the turn came, I realize that I'm directly to the right of the aggressor so I try to go for him raising me on the turn. It's the only way I can do anything that may help me win the hand. Check-raising will do absolutely nothing except trap the field for 2 bets. I know the K isn't the safest card in the deck, but it doesn't complete any reasonable draws so I'm happy with it. There isn't any compelling evidence that someone has a K. I think that's key. So I'm still treating my hand as an overpair. The river's a brick but I get weak-tight and go for the check and hopefully overcall. I'm not so sure a bet is +EV here, mostly because the draws off the flop won't call me. I'm still really confused about it actually. ----- HOLE CARDS ----- dealt to Hero [Th Tc] UTG: folds UTG+1: calls $0.50 UTG+2: folds MP1: folds Hero: raises $1 MP3: folds CO: calls $0.50 Button: calls $1 SB: calls $0.75 BB: calls $0.50 UTG+1: calls $0.50 ----- FLOP (12 SB) ----- [5s 8s 7c] SB: bets $0.50 BB: calls $0.50 UTG+1: raises $1 Hero: calls $1 CO: raises $1.50 Button: folds SB: calls $1 BB: folds UTG+1: calls $0.50 Hero: calls $0.50 ----- TURN (12.5 BB) ----- [5s 8s 7c][Kh] SB: checks UTG+1: checks Hero: bets $1 CO: raises $2 SB: calls $2 UTG+1: folds Hero: calls $1 ----- RIVER (18.5 BB) ----- [5s 8s 7c Kh][2c] SB: checks Hero: checks CO: bets $1 SB: calls $1 Hero: calls $1 ----- SHOWDOWN (21.5 BB) ----- |

1. Use the converter.
2. I don't know why you're betting the turn. |

Re: A Followup to \"Two Overpair Hands\"
I'm not 3-betting the flop because I don't want to get checked to raise SB or UTG+1 on the turn to force CO and button to face 2 bets cold.
Instead it gets checked by SB and UTG+1 so I bet in hopes that CO will raise me, getting other players to call 2 BBs. It's better than checking because they may work. If I don't bet the turn, there's no way I can force the field to call 2 bets which is what I really want to do. |

My instinct says 3bet the flop, also, but the board is pretty coordinated, so I don't know if we should or not. |

Re: A Followup to \"Two Overpair Hands\"
You're actually right. The raiser on the flop was directly to my right. I should've 3-bet it. God damn.
