Default Tunica trip report

Ok, Tunica was a blast and honestly internet poker will never be the same, my friend and I came to that conclusion. So, here is my take. Gold Strike is the place to play if you go. Dealers are great and friendly. The limit games have a great group of people there for the most part (friendly, nice and willing to throw away money). My thoughts on the games there are simple. 1/2 NL is a joke. The players here are for the most part maniacs. Play early in the day if you want to play that. Late at night and some during the day can really bring in some trash to the tables if you know what I mean. 25-30 dollar pre flop raises and 500-1000 dollar pots at this level, crazy. Its great if you have cards to play but really not worth your time unless people are there that really want to play and be some what serious. Secondly, the 3/6 limit game was great. Playing and having grandma and grandpa buying back the chips you just won off them is a great feeling. Very profitable for the most part. The rebuy tourneys are nuts. However, I did come in 4th place in one and take home just under a grand but for the most part its pretty crazy. My thoughts on the Horseshoe...I didnt think it was as classy as Gold Strike and to much smoke and trash around there. Grand only had one table going when I went by there and Hollywood and Sams Town were both just as empty. So if you want to go have a good time in Tunica go to the Gold Strike, very profitable at the 3/6 limit game and if you survive the re buy tourneys they can be too. Also, if you like to play stud the games there came be profitable as well. The people at those games are good people as well. Anyway, this is my take from a profitable week at the Strike. Take care!

The above is true if you play 3-6. If you play in a higher game where professional dealers are preferred the Horseshoe is a lot better. Also if a machine break at the GS many of the dealers aren't able to shuffle. And if a a decision needs to be amde Gary is the only floor person at the GS with the expereince to rule within the spirit of the rules.

Very true. Try the Horseshoe again when they open their new poker room and you'll probably change your mind. Because really the room is the only thing the GS has on the HS right now.

You should really check out the shoe once they get the room up and going.
The only thing the strike has on them is the fact that they consistantly offer no limit.
If you want quality play check out the 10/20 HS. The best players in tunica are usually sitting in the main game.
The 20/40 is probably one of the most profitable middle limit games in the country (day to day). I have friends who make trips from canada and the east coast just to play.

If you want one hell of a tourney the shoe offer a $65 buy in with rebuys several times a week. Top usually pays 5K or better.
A few months ago they ran one during the day and it had only 20 players or so--77 rebuys. That's sick.

Yeah you are right the net will never be the same

No, what I am saying Microbob is that the ones who are maniacs are raising pre flop to 25-30 dollars and crazy pot sizes. I guess I just respect people more that actually play seriously. I dont care for these kind of clowns. I love it when bad players are at the table but when you have 4 or 5 guys at the table that raise to 30 dollars pre flop all they are doing is getting the blinds and you cant play cards. Thats what I mean by that.

Is this an endorsement or a knock against the HS?

Tunica must be the home of the worst poker players in the world. Although Im often in the 10/20 HS main game, so you do have a point.

I stand by original statement and think you need to reassess your poker.
I wish I could have been in this game.

Your post has encouraged me to hit up the GS NL game more than I already do.

Whether you know it or not...you ARE playing cards when you have 5 maniacs at the table playing awful cards PF for big raises.

If it's too much money or variance for you to handle then that's one thing.
Since it's a no-cap 1/2 NL game I can see how this can obviously happen.
but I still don't see how your clarification is any different than saying, "I prefer a table with good players over one with bad players."

Also, if you have 4 or 5 different guys at the table who will do this then I'm not sure why they are only stealing the blinds.
But even if it is a situation of a different player raising to $30 each time to steal $3 blinds (and everyone else gets out of the way EVERY time) it still gives you a tremendous advantage because when you pick up a good hand you should be able to punish them.
Their raise to $30 PF for $3 worth of blinds is not +EV for them if you don't let it be.

Also - I suspect that it typically is a couple guys raising and cold-calling to $5 or $10...and then someone raising to $30 or $40 (which is more appropriate at this point).
I have only played this game 3 or 4 times but that's pretty much how it went on many hands when I was there.

Sorry to be harsh...but your thoughts of what constitutes a game that you WANT to play in kind of baffle me.

Your right about when YOU actually get a hand you can punish them. BUT it was stupid, one idiot would raise to 25 and everyone would fold. Then the next hand another would go to 30 and everyone would fold. I dont care to play in that kind of game is all I am saying. If you want to go sit down and can afford to put 1 or 2 grand on the table then it wouldnt be bad. The first day when I got there and played it was really enjoyable but after that it was just people throwing chips around and I never really had cards to do any damage and it wasnt as fun as the 3/6 game.
