A Simple Solution to the crowded WSOP
Well, it appears the WSOP is going to be a circus this year! The first open event has unbelievably been capped at 2400 players, and we have no reason to think that the other events aren't going to attract HUGE fields. This creates certain problems. From what I have read, the wait line to buy in was at 3 hours. Also, while the prestige of winning a bracelot has gone up, it has become hard for skilled players to navigate their way through such a big field without hitting a "landmine".
I have a simple solution to this problem: run multiple events DAILY. And not at the same place. Harrah's owns several properties on the strip and downtown, and each one could host a different event, which would cut down on the massive confusion and would also reduce the fields to a more reasonable number so that the tournaments don't become complete lotteries. Discuss.

Multiple initial heats of the same event at different locations is probably a good idea. A problem might be the required number of experienced dealers and tournmanent floor people might present a particularly unmanageble or at the least costly problem.

[/ QUOTE ] If this idea was suggested, wouldn't Harrah's need to greatly increase its staffing, thereby cutting into their bottom line? Also, how would holding events at multiple sites REDUCE confusion, let alone create fields that have a "reasonable" number of entrants? Kevin...

2,400 players is a lot of players for a live poker tournament. But, it's not difficult for one site to hold all those players and provide them the facilities to play comfortably.
I think the only problems you'll hear about is with insufficient poker staff. That's something that won't be solve and would probably be made worse by multiple locations. Besides, the WSOP is now like a convention. It should be in one place.

Practically, it's a good idea, but I reckon it would greatly reduce the atmosphere and buzz that people will be experiencing right now. To be one of over 2000 people in a room, most playing high-quality poker, must be a great feeling.

Your idea makes little sense for Harrah's. It will just increase their costs and lower their revenues (assuming they keep the same number of total events).
Plus what you say is a problem for skilled players really isn't.

I wish I was one of those 2k plus playing instead of being 2500 miles away working my regular day job. I could not care less about the crowd, lack of bathrooms, etc. A little twist on an old saying: Get busy "playing" or get busy dying!
Maybe (and hopefully) next year.
