Deal question
found my self heads up in a MTT($5 re-buy) for the first time the other day on PS.
Blinds are on the final level. SB=20.000 BB=40.000 Ante=1.000 I had aprox 3.000.000 (75xBB), and my opponent had 1.500.000 (38xBB) 1st prize paid $3.500 2nd prize paid $1.900 Unfortunately I had made no reading on how to handle deals.... I ended up taking a $2900/$2.500-deal Does anyone have any good links on making deals, or have any comments? |

Re: Deal question
Typically it is understood that a players chances of winning a heads up match is actually equal to the percentage of chips he has. So if one has say 75% of the chips they have a 75% chance of taking the whole thing. When it deals with more than just two people the math is generally the same, but it isn't quite as concrete.
Ovioulisy this is just a guide line because if one persons skill is greater than the other then thier chances of winning should be greater. It also depends upon the nature of the cards. I remember reading about deal making in The Theory of Poker and there is also supposed to be something on it in Harriton on Holdem Volume II. In the situation you posted I think that you got the short end of the stick. This is unless you felt that your opponent had you covered extensively skill wise. |

Re: Deal question
If you and your opponent are evenly matched...
A fair deal would give you 75/(75+38) of the 'amount at stake', which is $3500-$1900 = $1600. So you are entitled to $1900+$1061 = $2961. Sounds like you got a okay deal. |

Re: Deal question
Heads up is easy. You are already guaranteed $1900 so you are playing for $3500-1900=$1600. This is like a $1600 winner-take-all situation. You have a 2:1 chip lead and so have a 2:1 share of the $1600, which is 1066. Add that to the $1900 you are guarnteed and your fair share is $2966.
3-way is calculateable by folks smarter than me. 4-way is pretty hopeless. The real question is whether you played better than this player heads up. Don't take a deal if you do, do take a deal if you are in doubt. - Louie |
