Default Good Food in Vegas

Hi there,

I posted the a version of the following in OOT, but was told that I might get better response if I posted it here.

-----

The wife and I are heading to Vegas at the end of June, and would like to thoroughly gorge ourselves. I have a personal goal of gaining 5 to 10 lbs in the week that I will be there (bonus points for every pound over 10 ).

I tried to use the search engine to find good eats in Vegas, but couldn't find any threads. This means 1) that this has never been discussed or 2) I'm a moron when it comes to using the search engine. Hmmmm - I'm going with option 2. Anywho, I still need some good advice, so I'm going to toss this out there.

I'm interested to hear your opinions on where I can find some good ribs, wings, steaks, pork barbeque, other tasty animal products, and other good food (please refrain from the cow vs. vegetable debate). I'm trying to get a list together of "must eat at" places while I'm there trying to accomplish my goal. FYI, I'm not a picky eater, so comments on all types of cuisine are appreciated (I've never been much into Asian-based food, but I'd be willing to try if it's good). I'm not into spending a bundle on each meal, but I don't mind splurging for a couple of good meals while I'm there either if they are worth it. I like buffets and bar atmospheres, but sit-down restaurants are ok too. Also, a good $1.99 steak appeals to me at 4:00 am .

I've already hit pubcrawler.com to get the lowdown on the microbreweries in Vegas. I'll be hitting most of them because I'm a serious microbrew whore. Any ideas on which are the best? - I'm into good IPA's mostly, but also like the wheats, stouts, and... (Ah who am I kidding, I like to drink them all).

Basically, I'm just looking for opinions on what your favorite places/meals are in Vegas.

Thanks for the help.

there's another thread on this somewhere....
but hit up Crafsteak at MGM, and I'm also a big fan of that new Dishes buffet at Treasure Island, get in before 3 or 4 (forgot when dinner starts), and get to dinner for the lunch price, 13.99, and unlimited crab legs and prime rib!

Well, for animal flesh type products, I highly recommend joey bistro, on top of carriage house, which is on harmon about 1/2 a block off the strip. Wednesday night is prime rib night, and it is both fantastic and reasonably priced, perhaps 20-35$ each, depending on how much you drink, of what type, and whether you get appetizers. All of their food is very good tho.

For an absolutely fabulous, but very much not cheap food experience, hugo's cellar in the four queens is fantastic. The steaks are great, so is the duck and their appetizer where they bring out the hot rock and cook up the meat in front of you is to die for.

For piggy buffets, aladdin is claimed to be best about 60% of all people who i've asked. not cheap tho, and sometimes long lines.

Paris breakfast buffet is fantastic, I highly recommend it. Great crepes, pastries, eggs, coffee, great everything.

For cheep buffets, terribles and boulder station are my favs.

For sushi, yama sushi on flamingo and maryland parkway is my recommendation. great service, great food, and 23$ all you can eat, which i highly recommend getting. I eat there about once a week.

I'm not much of a rib man, so no help there.

Hoffbrau house on harmon and paradise, caddy corner from hard rock casino, has tasty beer and very VERY german food. they also have a german band, and waitresses that usually appear something to the effect of the saint pauly girl. it's loud tho, and slightly raucous, but i promise that next time i am going to win the "stein holding contest." They also have a beer drinking contest for the girls.

For something different, on harmon and paradise there's a place called pho hoa, which has vietnamise noodles and other such weird food. Great fresh basil and bean sprouts. For beginners, just get the steak pho.

For all you vegetarian types, this is friggin' VEGAS, so save your tree huggin' hippie debates for the OOOOOOOOOT forum!

This of course is just the tip of the iceburg for food in vegas.

I believe the giant seafood buffet is rio on fridays, but i'd call them to make sure. i haven't been there in quite a while.

on the other thread, i see mention of in and out burger. just make sure to get it "animal style."

also, el pollo loco is ab-fab. Just don't eat in or their selection of music for the restaraunt will probably drive you to suicide, or maybe homicide. I love their four piece chicken white meat meal with avocado salsa on the tacos, pintos and rice, and a couple al carbon tacos on the side.

baha fresh also has very tasty and relatively healthy mexican food, reasonably priced.

I have still not found the ultimate chinese lunch restaraunt, and i'd like to find the ultimate lemon chicken as well, any suggestions?

This sounds interesting. I'll definitely check this out. My wife and I are both German and one of us loves to swill beer (I'm not going to say which one )

The last time that I was at the Rio, it actually had two buffets...one the standard and the second a seafood buffet. The seafood buffet, while delicious, was not cheap at over $30 per person for dinner. This reflects the price there last summer. The line for getting into this buffet can be quite long if you hit it during prime dinner hours.

theres a small italian place just off the strip behind the flamingo that is excellent, I can't remember the name of it, but the house wine that they bring in a gallon jug is great.

My schedule is always so frigging messed up when I go to AC or Vegas, that I would be perfectly happy eating eggs and bacon at 6:30 pm or a pot roast at 6:30 am. I'll be dodging the prime-time hours for all of these places if possible .
