So did I wimp out on the river or overdo it on the turn? Or both?

A passive player giving you relentless action will typically have the nuts, or at least a monster. MP3 should have 98 here a heavy percentage of the time (else TT). With this read, I won't 3-bet the turn in your line. I may even consider calling the flop 3-bet, with the idea of leading a non-diamond turn (else c/c).

If he is a passive player as you say just call the 2 bet on the turn and maybe lead the river and call a raise. I don't really want to be capped by a tight player on the turn since he doesn't look like he is slowing down.

Yeah, even as I was 3-betting the turn I was thinking "the guy's passive, this isn't a good idea." And sure enough, villain had TT. Hopefully I have learned from the experience.
