As it turns out the OP was ahead until the river. The hero is going to take this down so often that it's worth noting that despite everyone's fears, it was only a desperate longshot that could beat him. To repeat, the hero was a huge favorite through the whole hand. Raise! Raise! Raise!

So why call down with top pair weak kicker? Your initial read was curious, your recommendation based on that read was curious as well.
