Hellmuth\'s Disciples
I played a different ring game then I usually do and I noticed a very strange trend.
There were a lot of players with low (11-15) VPIPs who's poker skills were just atrocious. I was just too curious (after my flopped set of aces got flushed) just what this guy was doing, so I asked. He explained to me how he was following the strategy laid out by Phill Hellmuth in his book. I noticed a couple of other guys were doing similar things (like 3 betting AQ after a raise and a couple of cold calls). I bet they were following the same strategy. Anyone else run into these "Hellmuth" players? |

Fear no players that can\'t/won\'t think for themselves
and have no idea how to adjust - and the fact they would even tell you what "system" they are using leads me to believe they wont be very successful with it

Re: Hellmuth\'s Disciples
Care to give us a quick run down of the Hillmuth strategy?
I presume it's something weak tight? |

Re: Hellmuth\'s Disciples
OMG everybody thinks they're Phil hellmuth. I've seen people basically quote him over and over..."buddy, NH", or other random complains reminsicent of Phil's antics. It's disgusting.

Re: Hellmuth\'s Disciples
Someone bought me his book for Christmas. It seems to me that he really emphasizes the "three-bet" for just about any hand he recommends to be played. It is a complete joke. It has no comparison with the 2+2 books. He ranks the top ten hands as pairs AA-77 and I believe AK and AQ, or something like that, and he says that beginners should stick with these ten hands until they get their feet wet. It's so ridiculous it's not even worth getting the book out to look it up to be sure.

Re: Hellmuth\'s Disciples
Hellmuth's book is absolutely AWFUL. I too got it for Xmas and unfortunately read it.
The 10 starting hands are a joke and 3 betting 77 against a raise from an UTG rock is prob -ev at best. I do hope the fishies read it though. Over valueing medium strength hands is a sure way to bleed off more money Jay |
