Default Tournament Poker for Advanced Players

I was wondering if David and the rest of the poker world have changed startegies as the fields at tournaments have become larger. Do David and others still advocate avoiding slight edges in tournaments now that players need to survive 500 or more players to win which also means larger jumps in prizes? This is specifically related to early in the tournament because I understand that at the end one may still want to move up places and not go only for 1st unless 1st is so large as in the World Series of Poker for example. Thanks.

TPFAP is a very dangerous book. There are excellent sections and horrible ones. everyone here has found a balance between taking edges and passing them up. just play lots of MTT's and read these forums and eventually you will have a good idea.
