Flush draw turns into a pair
First off, I just took about 6 months off from playing at all, so I'm probably very rusty.
Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (7 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is CO with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, Hero calls, 1 fold, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (6 SB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (6 players) SB checks, BB bets, UTG calls, MP1 calls, MP2 folds, Hero raises, SB folds, BB calls, UTG 3-bets, MP1 calls, Hero calls, BB calls. Turn: (9 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players) BB checks, UTG bets, MP1 calls, Hero calls, BB calls. River: (13 BB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players) BB checks, UTG checks, MP1 checks, Hero checks. Final Pot: 13 BB Raise the turn? Bet the river? |

Re: Flush draw turns into a pair
Definitely check the river. You can maybe raise the turn here, as you have around 14 outs, giving you a slight pot equity edge if everyone calls the 2 bets, but I think it's pretty borderline. You're better off just calling imo. Oh yeah, and if someone would have bet the river, I'm folding. I think the guy who 3bet you on the flop checked the river because he's scared of the 4straight.

Re: Flush draw turns into a pair
I think you can cap the flush draw on the flop since you will probably have 4 callers there. However you wont have enough equity to raise the turn, and I dont think betting your pair of tens after all the action would be a profitable river play. |

You played it fine. Betting/raising the turn would be complete chip spewage. I would fold to a river bet.

Re: Flush draw turns into a pair
I don't think raising the turn or betting the river is going to do you much good. You picked up 5 more outs on the turn (for a total of 14), but you'll never make a better hand fold by raising. If you're behind, you can raise for value if you get 3 callers (you need 2.3 : 1 for a value raise with 14 outs), but I doubt this will happen.
So call the turn and take the free showdown you're offered. UTG could have an ace and is checking because he is afraid of a straight, but on your good days, UTG will show down a busted flush draw. olavfo |

Re: Flush draw turns into a pair
You can't count 9's as full outs. No reads on villain and no PF raise, so UTG could easily be holding A4, A5, or A9. He's certainly betting the flop like he's got a very strong A or 2 pair already. I would call this 11-12 outs at best.

Re: Flush draw turns into a pair
Anyone else cap the flop? UTG and MP1 aren't going anywhere, and it may increase our chance of being checked to us on the turn if we miss.

Re: Flush draw turns into a pair
Agreed, we haven't got 14 full outs. I was just doing the math in a simple way to show that this isn't worth a turn value raise.

Re: Flush draw turns into a pair
I definitely would. BB's the original better so he's probably not going anywhere and you've got an equity edge.
After capping the flop, I'd probably still take the free card on the turn (if offered) even though I paired my T. |
