So say you raise and just win the blinds, who still tips? What about when you raise, the BB calls the raise, you bet the flop, and BB folds? Do you tip $1 from a $10 pot? I'm a good tipper, but I try not to tip pots like this... Thoughts?

[/ QUOTE ]

There is nothing wrong with skipping a tip when you win the blinds or a tiny pot.

So are the dealers.

If you're that concerned with profit why are you playing 3/6 live instead of higher or online?

I skip tips in these types of pots and apologize and smile to the dealer and they seem to understand. I tip extra in larger pots and will tip good dealers as they are leaving.

wow, you guys clearly don't play in washington. it's very good for the dealers here. i'm friends with some and a good bunch of them make 75k+.

i overtip, but i'm not at the casino to make money. i only play live for fun and drinks. if i beat the rake/toke/bar tab at the 4/8 game then it's a good night. i'd say i'm 50/50 on that. thank god for the internet.

any pot that goes to showdown is usually 3 bucks, 4 or 5 for huge pots. nothing for blind steals or no calls on the flop. dollar for split pots, no matter how huge.

keep in mind though that when we drink after their shifts are over, i never pay. ever. they won't let me.

I play the 3/6 and 5/10 games at the local casino and it seems pretty much standard to tip $1 for every pot, maybe $2 for huge pots and it's ok if you skip out on the tiny ones. However, at the local casino everything is split, while in Vegas I know the dealers don't split tips so you give the good ones more.

Default Still not gonna tip

I don't know, I just think it's crap I should have to tip. The casino already screws you over and makes a ton of money. You don't tip your Wal-Mart cashier, you don't tip the McDonalds drivethru guy, and you don't tip the kid that sacks your groceries. I've worked as a waiter before, and it irked me that people don't tip, but not tipping allows the casino industry and the service industry to screw over their employees by paying them lower wages. I made 3.09 an hour as a waiter..Dealers make much more than this.

I know I sound like a dick, but I don't think I'm still going to tip very much. I don't have a high bankroll right now, and I need the money. The casino I play at rakes in a ton, if people stop tipping less, dealers will get pissed, and in turn their pay would probably be upped by the casino. Everyone says "Play on the internet". The internet, in my opinion is what is ruining poker. All you see is bets and no faces and I personally know people who cheat all the time on the internet. I play much better live than I do on the internet as well.

If I don't tip, what is the worst that is going to happen, people at the table are going to hate me, even possibly bet at me more to try to beat me. I like limit tables where people always call you, thats how you get paid off. So the dealers don't like me? Oh well, what are they going to do kick me out or deal me 27o everytime. I don't buy it. Like I said, I'm not at the casino to make friends, I'm there to make money.

This sounds about as comical to me as your argument against tipping. I'm picturing you strutting in like you're the xxxx in sunglasses, hooded sweatshirt, and going on tilt after every bad beat....all at what's normally a very friendly very low limit live level about equivalent to .5/1 online. Just tip the freakin dealer already.

On every big pot I win the dealer gets a tip. On small pots I'll skip a few and then give a tip if I sense it's been a while. I want those dealers to get paid, and the cost to me is part of the service they provide.

At my card club, on small/medium pots, people often toss a buck chip and say chop. The dealer keeps the chip as a tip and returns a $.50 chip. This chip is unplayable, but worth the cash. Usually it just gets used for the next tip.

No, actually I've just graduated college and I don't have alot of money. I don't wear sunglasses at all just typical clothing of a 23 year old, and I am very respectful to the people I play with at the table. The other night, I got a bad beat from a clueless guy, but that doesn't bother me at all. I told him in a very nice manner, that's how I would of played it to, and I couldn't fault him for calling. Sure I was lying, but he didn't know that and these are the types of people you win money off of. I don't act like I know what I'm doing even though I am a small time winning live poker player, partly because I'm still learning and secondly why would I want people to think I know what I'm doing. I make alot of money from people who think I'm some stupid college kid who doesn't know what I'm doing, and that is beneficial to my game. I can't tell you how many times I just make money of off people calling me with bottom pair or stupid crap when I have the nuts. This equals a very big payoff for me.

if your worried that a dollar here and there is gonna hurt u then u should find another game. Being a former dealer, minimum wage is what your paid and only have tips to look forward to. They provide a service for u and have no part in the rake. I could see not tipping if u have a problem with a certain dealer, but thats rare. Most dealers are professional and deserve a tip.
