Re: Best poker book that has nothing to do with strategy
I enjoyed Positively 5th Street, and Alvarez's new book is nice for your coffee table.

Re: Best poker book that has nothing to do with strategy
I didn't particularly like Shut Up And Deal. It wasn't written very well, a lot of extremely long sentences, which I often had to read twice to understand what they said and most of the time those sentences didn't really say anything. Those long sentences might be less of a problem if your first language is English.
In short, the story is "I go play poker.. go to my room to smoke pot... put on another weird costume.. play poker again...smoke pot...other costume...play poker" and so on. I liked King Of A Small World much better. The premise is about the same, a guy who plays a lot of poker, but in this book something happens and it is well written. Peter |

I hated this the first time around. The second time, I loved it.

Poker Wisdom of a Champion-Doyle Brunson....really awesome book, I couldn't put it down. It's a collection of short stories/experiences by Doyle

[/ QUOTE ] I thought this was a really interesting read, especially the second time around. More about his story and the style of the book than about poker. Also, a great disconnect at the end between how he believes he is playing and how he is playing. As I said before, I hated this book the first time I read it. But a second read really turned it for me. It's very stylistic - to use a word that says nothing and everything. But you're right, if english is not your first language this could be a difficult read. ElSapo |

I haven't read it yet, but a lot of people have recommended Positively Fifth Street to me. It's about playing in the WSOP and should be right up your alley. It is nonfiction, but supposedly reads like a novel. [/ QUOTE ] It's excellent and well written. |

I think _The Biggest Game in Town_ is the best book about poker. The author, A. Alvarez, is a pretty good writer and it reads better than the others. [/ QUOTE ] I'll third the recommendation for this. Great poker book, and captures the psychology of poker players especially well. |

I like the Yardley book as well. I bought one on Ebay for pretty cheap.
