[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] One player who didn't have ID got arrested. [/ QUOTE ] For what??? [/ QUOTE ] It's illegal not to carry ID. [/ QUOTE ] Is this really true? I heard this once, repeated it later and was told it's not true. |

Re: NYC poker raid?
I don't know whether it's illegal not to carry ID, but if you're present when a raid occurs and can't identify yourself the police certainly can detain you.

[/ QUOTE ] A person can be arrested and held with no charge if no ID is found, if there was suspected criminal activity. Technically the police can hold the individual until a positive ID is made. My assumption is that IDs were checked so that the police could check whether there were outstanding warrants against any of them and to make sure they were not people that were otherwise known to be employees or owners of the club... if someone didn't have an ID it was possible that they were trying to hide their identity, so the police could take them in and check them out... my assumption is that the player without ID was released quickly (assuming he wasn't a wanted criminal). |

Re: NYC poker raid?
this is probably true... in all the excitement of this crazy news, i wasnt reading too closely. i did have proper ID, so i guess it would have been all good, but i lucked out and missed the whole debacle...
i wonder what sort of implications this will have for nyc cash game players. do you think there will me a massive amount of home games popping up all over the 5 burroughs? will people hole up in their homes playing online or mass exodus to foxwooods and AC on the weekends? |
