I have read "Poker Nation" and found it mildly enterntaining, and started reading "Big Deal".

I actually really liked Poker Nation. It was mildly well-written but did contain a lot of things to that I could relate. However, I just couldn't finish Big Deal. It was a tough read and boring at times. Never really finished it. Jumped around from chapter to chapter a lot. Hope you found it more interesting than I did.

I think _The Biggest Game in Town_ is the best book about poker. The author, A. Alvarez, is a pretty good writer and it reads better than the others. The Michael Konik books are entertaining as well. I also recommend Yardley's book _The Education of a Poker Player_, there is some discussion of strategy but those parts are overly conservative and most of the games discussed are no longer played. However, the stories he tells about learning how to play and the games he played are well told, he was involved in espionage as a codebreaker between the World Wars so the setting for some of the games is compelling. He's a natural storyteller and the characters are memorable.

regards,

raisins

I haven't read it yet, but a lot of people have recommended Positively Fifth Street to me. It's about playing in the WSOP and should be right up your alley. It is nonfiction, but supposedly reads like a novel.

Positively 5th Street is a really interesting read. If you like to watch the big televised tournaments, this is right up your alley.

The Greatedst Gambling Stories Ever Told", edited by Paul Lyon. There are 31 stories but not all are on poker. I think it is far and away the best. Writers include Dostoevsky, Mario Puzo, D. H. Lawrence, Mark Twain etc.

"Liar's Poker" has nothing to do with poker, but an excellent book that many poker players found enjoyable.
