Default Stealing with small pairs

Hero is button.
Villain is SB. Loose passive calling station. Pretty sure he knows I play mostly high cards. I believe he will have no problem showing down A high if it doesn't run into too much resistance.

Folded to Hero who raises w/ 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB calls, BB folds.

Flop is 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. SB bets, Hero calls.

Turn is 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB bets, Hero calls.

River 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], SB bets, Hero calls.

I feel like my hand is likely to be good the whole way here. I didn't want to discourage him. Should I be raising for value at some point. Should I be raising to "find out where I am"?

Raising for information isn't quite as bad as 3betting for information, but it's still pretty bad.

However, if you wanted to raise the turn for a free showdown, that might be a good play here. I'm still kind of new to this play, but it would seem that SB would be hard pressed to 3bet the turn with something that doesn't have you crushed.

I think raising the turn is the way to go. He's not 3betting a worse hand. He might fold a 6outer that's drawing live. He would likely check/fold a missed river draw that wasn't A-high or something, so you get value.

I think if you raise the turn and he donks the river you can fold.

I wouldn't call him passive if he betting into you with a draw or overcards which are the only possibilities you beat.

Still I think you have value calling down in position if he is also a donkey.

I probably would play the hand the same way if the sb
is very aggressive who bets overcards/draws.

If I felt he was truly passive I would consider laying it down on the turn.

Upto this point this line is poker perfection. I would call a river bet too to catch a busted draw bluff, but 99% of the time he will fold on the turn or call your raise and you check behind the river.

I'm also wondering what other posters think about
the free showdown play here, my default is let him
keep firing but it might not be the best
