Listen to this man.

If I somehow ended up with that haircut I'd tip way more than $10.

Enough to make your hair stylist remember you well. You want them to be happy to see you and really want to do a good job for you, because you're a hell of a good customer. That way you'll also get them willing to stay a little later to give you a cut sometimes, or put you ahead of some other customer if you're in a hurry. It pays.

I've tipped as much as the price of the haircut itself before, and believe me, they're glad to see you back and give you 100%. For a 40 or 45 buck haircut, a 20% tip at the very, very least. I'd tip at least $15. You don't want them to remember you tipped; that just classifies you as a non-jerk. You want them to remember you tipped really well.

$40 is reasonable for a haircut if you don't have a hairstyle that's as simple as trim the top and put a #3 fade on the sides. I'd tip $10-15.

It turns out I'm a really cheap prick. I've been tipping about $6 - the haircut is $44 and I just leave $50.

my haircuts are 25 and i tip 10. would probably tip 5 if it wasnt a hot chick who cuts my hair though. my hair pretty easy to cut i could probably get a similiar cut at great clips but i would have a fat old lady washing my hair.

My cut and shampoo is usually around $25 no tax. So I leave about $5 or $10 tip depending on well the cut was and how friendly the stylist was that day.

I go to the same girl and have been for ~ 5 years. She's awesome. The cut is 20. I give her 25 and we are both very happy.

Ouch, that is cheap.

The way I see it, the person who cuts your hair and your dentist are the type of people that you want to have think you're the greatest guy in the world. They can do too much damage and cause too much misery if they aren't happy and really into trying their very best.
