[ QUOTE ]
Why bet the river if youre only ahead of a busted straight draw that doesnt make sense. [/ QUOTE ] If you check the river and he bets, the only hand that you are ahead of that he would play that way would be a busted straight. All of his other medium hands that you can beat, he would checked on the river. |

What % of villain's hand range is a busted straight draw? What % of the time will he represent the flush w/the busted straight draw? Answer: not enough. Check-fold. The conditions required to make betting this river sensible cannot possibly exist since Hero would need a sophisticated read, which he does not appear to have.

If you check and he bets, you have to fold.
But if you bet, he might call with a weaker hand. If you bet and he raises, you must fold. The question is whether he calls with enough hands that you beat to make it worthwhile, and whether he bluff-raises enough to make it foolish to bet. I think it depends on the opponent. If our hand was a little stronger (a set) I think this is clearly a bet, fold to raise scenario, or check/call bluff scenario, depending on opponent. |
