Bob reviews some of the movies he's seen mentioned in this thread
il postino - overrated in my opinion (and I'm a fan of Pablo Neruda). I thought it was okay but not spectacular. Top Secret - That movie ROCKS!! Last Starfighter - Saw this in the theater with my best friend when we were 12. We were the only ones in the theater. We thought it was terrible and decided instead to stand at the screen and make hand-shadows puppets. I have seen it since and still think it's terrible. Trainspotting - Easily in my top 10 favorite films. Doesn't qualify as obscure imo. Night on Earth - I like Jim Jarmusch. Enjoyable film. Mystery Train is good too although similar. My Dinner with Andre - I liked it. It was referenced on the Daily Show the other day and I'm sure it was over the head of 90%+ of the viewing audience. FailSafe - was done twice. It is not the same as Dr. Strangelove though. The re-make with George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Richard Dreyfus, Harvey Keitel and Noah Wylie (among others) was done live on CBS a few years ago. It occasionally re-runs on A&E and is absolutely CHILLING. It is nothing short of terrifc and I highly recommend it. I've only seen parts of the original FailSafe though. Run Lola run - I liked it. Not horribly obscure. Strange Brew - This was one of my favorite movies when I was like 13. The storm-trooper hockey scene is kind of weird. After the Sunset - One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. Even the sexy Salma Hayek couldn't save this one. |

Some obscure films I dig:
The aforementioned CBS re-make of FailSafe is a good one I think. Clockwatchers - If this counts as obscure My Life to Live (Vivre se Vie) - 1962 French Film by Jean-Luc goddard (who also did Breathless which does NOT count as obscure) Blow-Up - 1968 Michelangelo Antonioni film. British. Not sure if this qualifies as obscure or not but it is certainly more obscure than some of the movies mentioned here. Fandango - 1984 film starring a young Kevin Costner (who I otherwise dislike) and Judd Nelson that I am partial to. |

I know it's your birthday and all...but really, After the Sunset?
That's like naming Tecate as your favorite obscure beer. Not only has everyone heard of it, but it sucks too. Will |

I loved Trainspotting -- bought it, even. Not even close to obscure, though.

Blow-up wouldn't be obscure to anyone who knows who Godard is.
