This hand happened at a 3/6 5-max game on Paradise, probably about 5-handed. I'm playing one table so I do have some reads.
I raise from late with TT. Only the BB calls. Flop is J9x rainbow. Villain checks and calls. Turn is an 8, giving me a straight draw. Villain check-raises and I calls. River is a T, making the board JT98x. Villain bets and I raise... Now, in previous hands against villain, he has only check-raised the turn with very good hands. So when he does it here, I put him on some 2 pair (most likely), a set, top pair (QJ KJ or AJ), or possibly an overpair (he likely would have 3bet preflop). But I think he is MUCH more likely to have 2 pair than anything else. So I raise the river, figuring he'll pay me off with a smaller set or two pair, and won't 3bet me with JJ. Usually when I read posts recommending "raise and fold to a 3bet" I laugh, because it's often just plain dumb. But here I'm thinking that this is the way to go, as he knows there's no way he's bluffing a straight here, and so he would need a straight to 3bet. What say you? Bob |
