Re: Best Intellectual Comedy (movie) of Alltime
[ QUOTE ]
Most people never seem to have heard of it. Unlike Bananas and Take the Money and run, it's almost never run on cable or even carried in video stores. I've introduced it to a bunch of people over the years, and never did anyone not laugh their ass off at it. Man, I wish he had stayed that funny. More jokes per minute than any other Woody Allen film, and every single one was a winnner, too. This one will always be my favorite Woody Allen film by a mile. [/ QUOTE ] it's very very funny but maybe not even top 5 woody allen movie for me... and I'm a big woody allen fan |

Re: Modern Times
"Modern Times" is the name of the movie. I think it's usually available at Blockbuster.

[/ QUOTE ] it's very very funny but maybe not even top 5 woody allen movie for me... and I'm a big woody allen fan [/ QUOTE ] Me too; I've even read his books and books about him. But lots of his fans are different types of fans. I thought Radio Days was awful, and many others were mediocre at best. To me, he took a steep drop-off when he started thinking comedy was trivial and drama was where it's at. The way I look at it, he threw away his gift, which was huge in comedy and decidedly minor in drama. I'll more than happily stick with Love and Death as my favorite, and as his funniest by far. Honorable mention goes to Annie Hall, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Purple Rose of Cairo, whatever that chameleon one was, and Hannah and her Sisters. None gave me anywhere near as much pleasure of any kind on first viewing, or subsequently. And none were remotely near as funny. P.S. Stardust Memories was not a big favorite of mine either. |

Re: Best Intellectual Comedy (movie) of Alltime
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] After Hours - a low grade word processing supervisor who hates his job bumps into a little sexy excitement at the end of his dreary day that pulls him into a vortex of such incredible bad luck, danger, and unlikely weird adventure that his ridiculously dull, unfulfilling life seems like paradise in comparison. Griffin Dunne's reactions to one disaster after another befalling him are priceless. This movie was remade many times with lesser casts. [/ QUOTE ] This was on HBO a few months ago. It's really out there. It's actually a bit annoying in some ways, since there were so many ways for Griffin Dunne's character to cut his losses early, but instead he keeps doing things that are obviously just going to get him in deeper and deeper. The best part is the way every time there he has a conversation with one of these nutty characters he meets, it's obvious that they only care about their own little world. [/ QUOTE ] Is this the movie where he ends up getting paper macheed at the end? if so its a great black comedy |
