What\'s that smell?
0.5/1 at Party Poker as usual. 8-handed game.
I'm the SB with A [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] . UTG limps, middle position loose aggressive (MPLA) calls, Passive Button (PB) calls, I call, BB checks. 10 sb Five players see the flop of 9 [img]/forums/images/icons/spade.gif[/img] , 5 [img]/forums/images/icons/club.gif[/img] , K [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] . I bet, BB folds, UTG calls, MPLA folds (thankfully), PB calls. 13 sb I bet to find the King knowing that I had 2nd pair with the overcard and a backdoor flush draw. Turn brings the 9 [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] . Now I actually like the hand. I bet, UTG calls, PB calls. 9.5 bb River brings the A [img]/forums/images/icons/diamond.gif[/img] . I bet, UTG raise, PB re-raise, I raise, UTG calls, PB calls all-in. What did I step in? I think they always play this way but stepping in it is bad for my blood pressure. Results to follow. I gotta go scrape off my shoe. Rockfish |

Re: What\'s that smell?
That smell is the scent of him charging you less than he should have. It's hands like this that I have trouble figuring out who drew out on who worse.
Preflop: your way behind, hoping for a flush, a strait with the 9 or trip 9s Flop: you have 2 outs and a backdoor flush Turn: he has 2 outs River: He hits his 2 outer and you pay off. I think you drew out on him worse than he drew out on you. But the implied odds on his suck out were much larger than yours. |

Re: What\'s that smell?
I agree. How can he not raise pre-flop with Aces?
I can see just calling on the button with aces when you're first in against an aggressive SB or BB, but with UTG and MPLA also calling I don't see how he can fail to raise. I disagree with your analysis of the flop. Given no pre-flop raise, if I catch an Ace I'm loving it. Like I said, I bet out on the flop looking for the K in someone elses hand. If the turn comes with a club, an Ace or a Nine, nothing that has yet happened tells me that I'm in trouble. If a blank hits and there's any action on the turn I'm done with the hand. The river card was a one-outer for him. I had the other one. If he always plays this way I think I'll be OK. Rockfish |

Re: What\'s that smell?
Anytime I slow-play AA like that I usually lose. Sorry to hear about the beat, but it seems like you played the hand just as u should have. Noone else wanted to take control of the hand, and after the turn, u had little reason to think u were behind.
Now, what I don't get is if you have 5 callers preflop, how did u end up with 10 sbs in the pot? |

What did I step in?
I don't understand. You weren't really worried at the time that you lost, were you? You had no reason to think so. |

Re: What\'s that smell?
No. I was dancing around my computer room celebrating just as the pot was being pushed to the guy who rivered me. Imagine my surprise.

I hate that feeling. It's worse when you are at the casino and start dancing around the table. |

Re: What\'s that smell?
I wasn't analyzing the flop from your perspective while the hand was in play. I was analyzing it as if the cards were face up. I don't think there's anything wrong with how you played the hand, I think I would have played it the same way.
You're right. 1 out not 2 |

Now for what's really important... are you a good dancer?
Very sorry about the bad beat though -- this, combined with your other hand (AQs vs KK), really really bites. |
