Odd comment, the Luxor room is non-smoking.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was there last year so maybe it's changed, but there was smoking by the players on either side of me and it got to be too much for me after about an hour. I didn't stay at either hotel (I was way north at the Sahara) so I can't comment about the rooms.

The Luxor on the other hand...I love the poker room there.

Why?

Fair question. I only played in a few places, and I found the games at the Luxor to be pretty good for a low limit NL player. I didn't experience any of the dealer problems that people had mentioned, and I thought the players were just terrible.

My experience in vegas is that ALL low limit games are good games, and most of the mid limit ones as well.

I do have a question for the original poster, why don't you just try to get a poker room rate wherever you are staying ?
The prices of the hotels you are considering should be very similar to the prices of much nicer hotels that offer a poker room rate. I believe the Wynn, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay and a lot of other nice places offer a room rate of about 200 a night for their poker room rate. 200 a night should not a significant increase over what you may be paying, although it all depends on the weekend you are going.

My room at the trop did not have a mirror on the ceiling, very disappointing....

For what you said your friends wanted, hands down Luxor.

Enough has been said about Luxor's poker room, it is newbie LL land and it is non-smoking now. I don't recommend it, and Tropicana's is so new, hard to say, but I'm betting, not very busy, but Luxor's is...

The best thing about the Trop is their Comedy club, other than that, I stay away!
The buffet sucks, the casino machines are tight, and it's just a dumpy aging place.

I'd try the Barbary Coast too, it's got a better wandering around to more places location a bit further down the strip.

If rooms are your concern, stay at Luxor.

The people who think the Luxor rooms are not nice are smoking something. They are just fine. Trop is just fine(except the Garden rooms) and has a nicer pool, but Luxor is newer, cleaner, and has better poker. There is a tram that goes to Mandalay bay and Excalibur. It is free.
