Default Short Meskwawki Trip Report

Arrived 2:30 Saturday afternoon - 3 games going, $1-5 stud and $2-4 and $4-8 HE.

I took a seat in the $4-8 and got going.

Good game. Great game. The game was TOO GOOD, lol.

Was card-dead for a while then won a nice pot with KK unimproved, capped 4-ways pre-flop and 3 ways on the flop.

Won a small pot 3-way which was folded on my turn bet w/AA.

Outside of that, I was pretty card-dead, though. I chopped 2 large pots that I "should've" won if the players had any sense (a KQ vs QT flop of K-T-x that wound up as a 4-card broadway using the Q, and a flopped straight that filled someone's 1-card gutshot to the same straight) and I made some bad decisions on playing and folding.

Lost with AA to 74o 2-pair, and then 2 middle pairs hit their 1-outer to make trips vs. my top pair, etc.

I got AK, AQ a good number of times, but nothing connected. Very few pocket pairs (I remember 55 towards the end of the session, not much else) that made no sets. The one flush I made I was up against quad Ks, which I called before he showed (one of the only tight players at the table).

While the KK hand put me up slightly at the time, the SUPER loose and moderately aggressive nature of the game combined with the slowly draining blinds during the dead periods and the limp-and-then-call a raise for 7 way action with half-decent-looking stuff surely dwindled the stack. Throw in a few beats and I lost my buyin.

If I didn't have a dinner appointment, you couldn't have gotten me out of that seat.

I left at 6:30 and there were still only 3 games going, but they set out food at 5, and it looked like a bunch of regulars came in around that time - the lists were growing, and I bet they got some more games going later that night.

The room was behind closed doors, quiet and non-smoking. The chips were shiny and new. I'd definitely go back (not sure when I'll be able to, though).

For those not aware, the Meskwaki Casino is just outside Tama, Iowa. Great action when I've played. I got in a 6/12 HE game once that was like printing money. And the 4/8 has always been good to me as long as I outlasted the wicked swings.

Regards,

T

I went Thursday and was in a similar 4-8 game. You're right, if you're hitting cards, this is a MONEY game - but the schooling effect got me. 8 players in against AA for a raise, you can just about imagine that didn't hold up. Big pocket pairs losing to dinky two pairs because people "just wanted to see a flop" with 49s and the like. I won two HUGE pots with a flopped set of 5s and a turned fullboat with 67o out of the big blind to no PFR, and it was only because of those two pots that I managed to only lose $80. Wish I could have hit a few cards...
