Default ATo UTG

MP2 is very loose, aggressive
MP3 is loose, passive

I didn't like this hand - couldn't put my finger on why.

This hand is playable preflop from UTG. I think the hand looks fine.

[/ QUOTE ]no its not, it has no suitedness, and is only marginally strong in regards to high card. I would hate to limp with this and have to call a raise. Easily dominated hand, unless you hit TP with the T. He got a decent flop, but thats because God was looking down on him and noticed his poor preflop play.

Fold this PF, and forget about the flop.

I'll raise ATo UTG on certain .50/1 tables that are playing more weak/tight than usual. In 30,000 hands I've raised ATo UTG 10 times, winning 6 times for a BB/hand of 1.63. The BB/hand would have been twice that but a guy called my flopped trip aces all the way with 99 and hit a 9 on the river.

So I think it's a good play on the weaker tables especially if they're starting to respect your raises a little too much.

I don't play AT offsuit from that position either, and my vpip is 19%, so I don't think you will be missing much by playing this hand UTG. I would rather play A2 suited than AT offsuit from that position. Offsuit hands suck when out of position, especially in multi-way pots. I fold KJ offsuit as well.

Post-flop looks fine. Agianst a LAG I don't mind going into check call mode on the turn and river. Kind of odd that MP2 didn't bet the turn though, most LAGs would bet here.

ATo is only -.07EV for the avreage player over a large number of hands (see Pokerroom db). Since the average includes both good and bad players, it is a reasonable assumption that good postflop players will find ATo +EV to play.

EDIT: EV value is for early position.

ATo is not a universal fold from UTG, but I usually do. In the cases where I don't fold UTG, I'm opening for a raise. I will never openlimp with ATo - in any position.

Limping ATo at .5/1 is not as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. I very rarely do it personally, but Shill had a post here awhile back that if you're raising AJo UTG, how bad could playing ATo be?
