Default Confused

Hi, this is my first post.

In a very recent thread in this forum there's a discussion about Big Bets. I don't want to take over that thread so I post this separately.

What is a Big Bet?
I thought that a Big Bet in a .10/.20 game was .20, and making 3BB/100 was making .60/100.
Is there such a thing as an average Big Bet when playing at the same limit?

BTW, how much is a Big Bet in pot/no limit when computing BB/100?

I think I'm missing something here.

TIA

In limit the big bet is the the betting ammount on the turn and river, so in a .10/.20 game the big bet is .20. 3BB/100 is the same as earning .60 per 100 hands. In no limit the big bet is usually considered in peoples calculations to be twice the bet on the turn and river. So in a game with .10/.20 blinds (typical for a 10$ buy-in game), the big bet is actually .40 (this is only for calculating averages/winnings).

Yes, it seemed like big bet size could vary at the same limits. He must mean big pots, right?

At the same limit (for fixed limit) or at the same blind size (for no limit) big bets will always be the same size.

Do you have a link to the thread that confused you?

Ah, yes, I see. I found that post pretty confusing as well. This is why I think Student should be posting those types of things in the Theory or Probability forums rather than here. However, he has a different opinion, so that's that.

The way he is using the term "Big Bet" is totally outside of mainstream use when trying to figure one's earn rate. I'll try to explain what the problem is as a response to that thread - I've been putting off responding to it.

For now, just forget whatever you read in that thread.

Regards,

T

I agree with both of these statements.

Obviously I haven't been on 2+2 very much lately, and probably won't ever be 'back'.

But in my reading of all the threads I hadn't been keeping up with, I found the the one you guys are talking about to be pretty... well... bad.

Keep up the good work, SheridanCat!

Personally I think that the posts are somebody winding us up. But if that's not the case, then - case in point, I think that someone ought to have a quiet word.

I'm sorry to hear this, Cola. The forums will be poorer without your contributions.
