Yeah that's true, I get what you guys are saying but to me a tell is more useful if it's someone that's actually in a hand than someone who's going to fold preflop anyway, but yeah it works as a sort of "position grabber".

I used to do something similar... preflop, if I was going to muck, I'd keep my fingertips and thumb on the card edges so I could toss them away. If I was going to play, I'd have my hands off the cards, so I could quickly grab chips to limp or raise (I wasn't so bad as to pick up the chips until the action was to me though). Luckily, I quickly realized what I was doing, and now I just try to always keep my fingers on the card edges until the action is to me.

I've noticed the same tell with many recreational players who wear all the "Texas Hold 'Em ALL IN!!" tshirts etc and play with card protectors usually exibit this tell. Obviously this tell isnt as reliable with experienced/skilled players..
