Jurollo\'s \"perfection\" hand - what if you were the button?
This is where find playing AQ difficult (read: expensive). I have switched the hand history to represent the Hero as the button this time and Jurollo as the Villain.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (9 handed) converter SB (t10315) BB (t15760) UTG (t13488) UTG+1 (t21075) MP1 (t8500) MP2 (t10520) Villain (t15375) CO (t13695) Hero (t12895) Preflop: Hero is Button with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 4 folds, Villain raises to t1000, 1 fold, Hero calls t1000, 2 folds. Flop: (t2200) 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Villain bets t750, Hero...? Does your line change if Villain bets 2/3 or the pot on this flop? |

Re: Jurollo\'s \"perfection\" hand - what if you were the button?
I raise the flop, if called half pot the turn and check behind on the river. If I get checkraised on the turn or reraised on the flop, I fold if my opponent is sane and call if my opponent is not.
Is this too weak? I always feel like I don't know what I am doing in these situations. |

Re: Jurollo\'s \"perfection\" hand - what if you were the button?
As long as the villian keeps pricing it well, I'm happy to call him down. No sense in letting him see cards for free though, if he checks on any street or beets it too small, I'm betting/raising. The idea here is that you are either way ahead or way behind. That is, he either has AK/AT/set or AJ/KQ/KJ/underpair. So, at most he has 4 outs. OR you have at most 3 outs.
So as long as the price the villian is setting a price that kills his 11.5:1 odds, I'm happy to let him keep betting. (in practise, I'm making him pay more than this if he bets too small) CSC |

Re: Jurollo\'s \"perfection\" hand - what if you were the button?
That is the other thing I tend to do in these situations, but I would really like a way to get away from this if I am behind and I think villian can put me allin on the river if he makes reasonable bets on the flop and the turn. Or is this just something we have to accept?

I'd reraise to 4k preflop, but it would be a tough decision when jurollo pushes, calling or folding would be pretty read dependent.

Is there a bug in the hh converter? It says that the pot is 2200 when the flop is dealt, but I think it should be 2825 [225 antes + 600 blinds + 1000 raise + 1000 call].

Your pot odds are 17695:8870 by my calculations or almost exactly 2:1. The AQ should be folded IMO because there's a very high probability it is dominated. If your "read" on Jurollo is that he could be pushing with coinflip hands like 99, TT, and JJ, then it was a terrible play for you to reraise to 4000. |

Re: Jurollo\'s \"perfection\" hand - what if you were the button?
I ran this through PokerStove, where we have AQo and opponent can have AA-TT, AKs, AKo, and AQs.
Our pot equity was only 31.52%, clearly a fold getting 2:1 pot odds. And I think this is generous because most opponents would not push with TT, against a reraiser on these stack sizes. |

i like a call pre-flop. i'm calling the flop and raising for value at some point, probably the river. if i go broke, so be it.
